During her stay from February 10 to February 16, 2025, she engaged in knowledge exchange with Prof. Chris Anagnostopoulos and Dr. Tahani Aladwani at the School of Computing Science, exploring innovative methodologies and potential joint research directions. This visit serves as a foundation for future collaboration, aiming to advance optimization strategies in power grid design.
July 16 – July 24, 2025 George Floros (UTH -> UGLA)
Dr. George Floros conducted a research visit to the University of Glasgow in the context of the COIN-3D project, contributing to its overarching mission of enhancing the research and innovation (R&I) capacities of the University of Thessaly. During his stay, Dr. Floros engaged in strategic knowledge exchange activities, participated in collaborative meetings, and held technical discussions with colleagues from the University of Glasgow. These efforts aimed to foster new institutional links and advance the capacity-building objectives of COIN-3D, in alignment with WP3, Networking and Knowledge Sharing. In parallel, he actively contributed to the research activities of WP4, focusing on the implementation and evaluation of deep learning and computational intelligence methodologies applied to the project’s Electronic Design Automation (EDA) workflows. Finally, Dr. George Floros served as the Chair of the 1st Workshop on High Performance and Energy Efficient Architectures for 3D Chiplets (HiPER-3D), organised in conjunction with the IEEE International Conference on Distributed Computing Systems (ICDCS 2025) in Glasgow. The workshop gathered international experts to discuss emerging advances in high-performance 3D chiplet technologies. Through this role, he actively promoted the visibility and dissemination of COIN-3D outcomes on a global stage, while facilitating international networking and collaboration among researchers and stakeholders in the field.
July 16 – July 27, 2025 Pavlos Stoikos (UTH -> UGLA)
PhD candidate Pavlos Stoikos visited the University of Glasgow from 16 to July 27, 2025, as a visiting researcher at the School of Computing Science. During his stay, he collaborated with Prof. Christos Anagnostopoulos on applying advanced graph-based and physics-informed machine learning techniques to reliability analysis in VLSI circuits. Specifically, he explored the use of Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) and Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs) for the fast and accurate prediction of electromigration-induced stress in multi-segment interconnects, a critical concern in modern electronic design automation (EDA). Further, he presented a paper titled “Matrix Exponential-Based Thermal Simulation for Distributed Computing Infrastructures” at the 1st Workshop on High Performance and Energy Efficient Architectures for 3D Chiplets (HiPER-3D), organized in conjunction with the IEEE International Conference on Distributed Computing Systems (ICDCS 2025) in Glasgow. During the same event, he also served as a student volunteer for ICDCS 2025. In this context, he contributed to enhancing the global visibility and dissemination of COIN-3D outcomes, while also offering valuable insights to guide the project’s future work on applying AI to VLSI reliability challenge
July 16 – July 27, 2025 Maria Pantazi (UTH -> UGLA)
PhD candidate Maria Pantazi visited the University of Glasgow from 16 July to 27 July, 2025, as a visiting researcher at the School of Computing Science. During her stay, she engaged in extensive discussions and collaborative meetings with Prof. Christos Anagnostopoulos and Dr. Tahani Aladwani on the application of machine learning to physical design, with a particular focus on global placement and physics-informed neural networks (PINNs). The visit involved a series of technical exchanges aimed at aligning modern ML techniques with the challenges of large-scale VLSI design. In parallel, she participated as a volunteer at the IEEE International Conference on Distributed Computing Systems (ICDCS 2025) and actively contributed to the organization of the 1st Workshop on High Performance and Energy Efficient Architectures for 3D Chiplets (HiPER-3D), held in conjunction with ICDCS and co-organized under the COIN-3D project. She also presented a paper titled “A System-Level Aware Power Delivery Network Generator for Multiprocessor Systems” during the workshop and took part in a seminar led by Prof. Anagnostopoulos on research management, offering a broader perspective on planning and sustaining impactful research. Through these activities, he supported the dissemination of COIN-3D outcomes and strengthened inter-institutional collaboration in the area of AI-driven EDA.
July 16 – July 28, 2025 George Goudroumanis (UTH -> UGLA)
PhD candidate George Goudroumanis conducted a research visit to the University of Glasgow from July 16 to July 28, 2025, hosted by the School of Computing Science. During his stay, he collaborated closely with Prof. Christos Anagnostopoulos and Dr. Tahani Aladwani on exploring the use of machine learning methods in physical design, with a focus on global placement strategies and the integration of physics-informed neural networks into EDA workflows. The visit included numerous technical meetings and collaborative sessions aimed at bridging AI techniques with physical design challenges.
In addition, he served as a student volunteer at the IEEE International Conference on Distributed Computing Systems (ICDCS 2025), actively supporting the event’s organization. As part of the COIN-3D initiative, he also contributed to the coordination of the 1st Workshop on High Performance and Energy Efficient Architectures for 3D Chiplets (HiPER-3D), co-located with ICDCS. During the workshop, he presented his paper titled “Design Space Exploration based on Q-Learning for 2D Bin-packing Problems,” showcasing novel applications of reinforcement learning in design optimization. He also participated in a research seminar led by Prof. Anagnostopoulos on research management, gaining insights into effective research planning and strategic development. His involvement reinforced the project’s outreach goals and strengthened collaborative links between institutions in the context of COIN-3D.
July 16 – July 28, 2025 Athanasios Tziouvaras (UTH -> UGLA)
Dr. Athanasios (Thanasis) Tziouvaras visited the University of Glasgow to collaborate on research in AI models for placement methodologies in circuit designs and VLSI. During his stay from 16th to 28th July 2025, he had meetings and discussions with Prof. Chris Anagnostopoulos and Dr. Tahani Aladwani to progress their operational agenda, define the challenges and organise the next steps for their jointed research efforts. Preliminary AI model architectures have been defined, explored and suggested; while also a separate set of meetings had been held for future funding opportunities through the EU HORIZON and pathfinder programmes. Further, Dr. Tziouvaras chaired 2 sessions on the ICDCS 2025 conference and contributed to the dissemination activities of the COIN-3D project to academic and scientific audiences. This visit served as major milestone for future research and knowledge diffusion activities under the COIN-3D umbrella in the field of AI for EDA.

PhD candidate Foteini Oikonomou visited the University of Glasgow from July 16 to July 27, 2025, as a visiting researcher at the School of Computing Science. During her stay, she collaborated with Prof. Christos Anagnostopoulos on exploring new optimization techniques for evaluating machine learning models using Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) in the context of Placement, a critical phase in electronic design automation (EDA). Additionally, she had the opportunity to volunteer at the 45th IEEE International Conference on Distributed Computing Systems (ICDCS 2025), gaining valuable exposure through interactions with leading researchers in the field. Her visit also included participation in university-organized seminars, such as one on research management led by Prof. Anagnostopoulos, which offered insightful perspectives on strategic research planning and organization.
July 18 – July 24, 2025 Kostas Kolomvatsos (UTH -> UGLA)
Prof. Konstantinos (Kostas) Kolomvatsos visited the University of Glasgow to collaborate on research in Pervasive Data Science and Machine Learning models for the support of intelligent circuit design tools. During his stay from July 18th to July 24, 2025, he had discussions and collaboration with Prof. Chris Anagnostopoulos to define the research challenges of the collaborating teams and the next research steps. Additionally, they discussed the future opportunities and ideas to attract funding that is relevant to the above research domains. This visit serves as a foundation for future collaboration built upon the past common research activities, aiming to advance the adoption of intelligent services and data management in the design of circuits that can support data and computational resources hungry applications.

Mr. Dimitrios Karamperopoulos carried out a research visit to the University of Glasgow as part of the COIN-3D project, contributing to its core mission of enhancing the research and innovation (R&I) capacities of the University of Thessaly. During his visit, he actively participated in strategic knowledge exchange activities, engaged in collaborative meetings, and held technical discussions with researchers from the University of Glasgow. These efforts supported the development of new institutional links and advanced the capacity-building objectives of COIN-3D, in alignment with Work Package 3 (WP3): Networking and Knowledge Sharing.
October 12 – OCTOBER 22, 2025 Foteini oikonomou (UTH -> UvA)
PhD candidate Foteini Oikonomou visited the University of Amsterdam (UvA) from October 12 to October 22, 2025, as a visiting researcher in the Parallel Computing Systems (PCS) group. During her visit, she collaborated with Dr. Anuj Pathania, an Assistant Professor in the group, to discuss several key research topics. Their collaboration focused on Electronic Design Automation (EDA) and Low Power Hardware-Software Co-Design, as well as advanced methods of AI and ML for energy and power prediction. Additionally, they explored machine learning-based scheduling for efficient thermal regulation on chips.
October 12 – OCTOBER 22, 2025 Maria Pantazi-Kypraiou (UTH -> UvA)
PhD candidate Maria Pantazi-Kypraiou visited the University of Amsterdam (UvA) from October 12 to October 22, as a visiting researcher in the Parallel Computing Systems (PCS) group. During the visit, she collaborated with Professor Anuj Pathania and Dr. Yixian Shen on a research project focusing on system-level reliability analysis and scheduling. The discussions and joint work explored advanced methods to improve reliability-aware task management and enhance the robustness of manycore systems.
October 12 – OCTOBER 22, 2025 Stoikos Pavlos (UTH -> UvA)
PhD candidate Stoikos Pavlos visited the University of Amsterdam (UvA) from October 12 to October 22 as a visiting researcher in the Parallel Computing Systems (PCS) group. During his visist, he collaborated closely with Professor Anuj Pathania and PhD candidate Maria Pantazi-Kypraiou on a research project focused on system-level reliability analysis and scheduling. They discussed how modern methodologies can improve system reliability compared to traditional approaches. Additionally, their work explored optimization techniques for implementing advanced scheduling mechanisms, particularly in the context of manycore systems.
